Exotic Hardwood Flooring

Exotic wood finish and exotic hardwoods

Exotic hardwoods are a type of hardwood flooring that is very trendy now with people trying to step outside the box a little bit to have a unique look. However people tend to be under the impression Exotic woods are was just so much more expensive than other types like Oak wood flooring. This is because exotic woods are flooring products that come from outside the US. Typically these from countries African, Brazilian, Thai/Burmese, Caribbean, Australian and South America

Not True, at Above Board Flooring we have a variety of Exotic woods and suppliers at the price point that there are there absolutely amazing and affordable for homeowners.

As I’ve said before, everyone loves a nice hardwood floor. There is something at once rustic and sophisticated about it, a warm sense of home, hard work, and well-earned comfort. At the same time, they do possess an aura of the luxurious, and there is no finer way to emphasize that end of their appearance than through the installation of exotic hardwood flooring.

Varieties of Exotic Hardwood

Mahogany and cherry are two popular exotic woods suitable for use in a variety of locations throughout the house, indoors and out. Cherry exotic woods, in particular, are highly suited to living room and dining areas. Both woods are a little on the soft side as compared to, say, oak. Hickory is a rustic-looking wood that is best used in hallway, foyers, and other transient areas and is, as opposed to those already mentioned, extremely hard and durable. Brazilian Teak is water-resistant, insect-resistant, and extremely durable, but is a dense and heavy wood that will make installation more expensive.

As with other forms of hardwood, the more exotic hardwoods are commonly ¾” thick, and come in widths of up to approximately 5”. In the case of the exotics, 3 and ¼ inch width, as well as 4 and ¾ inch width, are recurring. Exotic woods display a moderate width in between the extremes represented in frequently available domestic hardwood flooring.

How Much does Exotic Hardwood Cost?

Suppliers such as Casa de Colour, Virginia Mill Works, and Bellawoods offer these and a wide variety of other exotic woods, often at prices ranging from $10 US to $25 US per square foot. A few exotic woods may uncommonly dip into the $5 US/SFT, but watch out for genuine articles—and for the use of sustainable foresting methods. But Above Board Flooring uses our experience and buying power to provide homeowners in Charlotte and Mooresville NC as or as close to wholesale pricing. Call us today to get a free estimate.
